Frequently-asked questions
SAMNIC MOOC is not just an online course, but a way to connect and collaborate in a structured way with other people interested in the safety of children’s products in order to reinforce students’ learning. In addition to videos, reading materials and activities, SAMNIC MOOC provides interactive user forums to help build the SAMNIC community for all those involved in the safety of children’s products (industry, consumer associations, health professionals, consumer authorities, universities, etc).
SAMNIC MOOC is a completely free course, open to everyone.
SAMNIC MOOC offers a global vision of the safety of children’s products. The course covers a range of topics: risk analysis; the stages of child development and behaviour in relation to hazards; the most common hazards with this kind of product; applicable standards and regulations on toys, child care articles and playgrounds, among others. We also offer two real-life case studies. This course is taught using entertaining 5-minute videos that illustrate these contents in a graphical way. Among other things, you will be able to watch a simulation of the use of an article by a child through laboratory tests, interviews with experts on child safety, and see case studies. SAMNIC MOOC is more than a course: it is a community that boosts collaborative learning among those interested in the safety of children’s products.
You can take this course using your computer, tablet or mobile phone. You need only Internet access!
No, you do not need to take all the modules. SAMNIC MOOC offers customised itineraries depending on your interests. For example, if you are a quality technician or a designer in a toy company, you will have an itinerary adapted to your needs, which will also be available for other professional profiles. All the itineraries include their relevant certificate.
When you finish the course, you will be able to download your digital certificate free of charge.
At the moment, the platform of the course is being developed by the partners of the European project SAMNIC (Training on Safety Assessment and Management for New and Innovative Children’s Products), funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission. The course is not available presently, but you can pre-register and be a part of a potential group of users that will participate in the pilot phase of SAMNIC MOOC before the formal launch. SAMNIC MOOC will be ready in August 2016.
